Pulmonaria from the family of chipmunks is great in our gardens. A humble herbaceous plant does not upset with whims and blooms early, almost immediately after the snow melts.
Varietal species are particularly beautiful. The petals gradually change shade from bright pink to purple-blue. Leaves located on a straight stem are soft and velvety, covered with silver spots.
It cannot be said that the flower of the Pulmonaria will be the most spectacular inhabitant of the site, however, it has a special charm. In England, this plant is used for salads.
The young root leaves do have a lot of vitamin C, as well as potassium, iron, manganese, calcium and other useful trace elements. By the way, even in dried form, the flower is still useful, so it is used for salting or cooking. In addition, it has medicinal properties.
The data on the types of medical devices are different, experts call a minimum of 12. The plant is actively repopulated, so structure the genus is very difficult. For therapeutic purposes, you can grow a medical madrassa, soft and unclear.
In floriculture, the most ornamental types of honeycomb are well-proven: valovid with silvery white leaf plates, long and narrow leaf, obscure, sugar, and red with scarlet petals.
How to grow a Pulmonaria flower
The scorching rays of the sun are contraindicated to the plant. The area where you are planning to plant the birdwatcher should be in shade or shade, e.g. under trees or close to buildings.
The drawing on the leaves will then be well expressed and the flowers will surprise you with their rich shades. But there are no special requirements to the soil, the perennial will take root everywhere. Of course, attention should be paid to the drainage of the soil, the water should not stagnate.
Seeds can be used to multiply the Pulmonaria. In spring, they are sown directly into the soil. Weeds are removed from the plot in advance, preferably also manure. It is important to consider that the bed depth should be at least 45 centimetres. When the seedlings appear, they should be thinned out, leaving around 8 centimetres of space between the shrubs.
The seed multiplication method has two main drawbacks. Firstly, it is not possible to keep the purity of the variety so, plants with a completely different coloration may appear. Secondly, young plants grown from the Medusa seeds will not bloom until 2-3 years later. Therefore, it is better to use multiplication by bush division.
It is recommended to divide the perennial plant in early spring or July-August. From the bush carefully separate the part with the bud and planted directly in the ground at a distance of about 20 centimeters from other specimens.
The area around the planted plants is mulched using perennial, then they will develop better. The young bushes are covered with a film for 5-6 days so that the moisture does not evaporate so quickly.
Culms will save you from surprises with the variety. But in the future, the plants will be wonderfully replanted to keep the collection clean, different varieties should be planted far away from each other.
How to take care of Pulmonaria
Pulmonaria is a water lover, it needs regular watering, especially during drought, but you should beware of water stagnation. Despite the undemanding nature of the plant to the soil, it is desirable to apply humus every season, and around July, when the leaves are actively growing, fertilize with mineral fertilizers.
